Many resource-rich communities around the world are plagued with poverty, illiteracy, and epidemic diseases. Add frequent corruption, greed, and lawlessness to the mix and too often local populations find themselves unable to rise above their conditions. Sierra Leone is just such a place. The practical and spiritual needs are great, but living side by side with these challenging conditions is a strong ethos of hope, pride, generosity, and an unmistakable spiritual hunger.

Through our ministry, we are striving to create a legacy of filling needs, both eternal and practical, so that this and future generations in Sierra Leone will be able to stake their claim in the progress that our helping hands will allow them to achieve. A warm meal, safe drinking water, basic medical care, education: these are just some of the things that for many are just a dream.

With God’s provision, and our faithful partnership, these dreams can become part of their reality.

Since 2017, ILF has:
  • Performed over 100 hernia repair surgeries
  • Produced over 50,000 lbs. of rice in 2018 — enough to feed the entire community for one year.
  • Established health and hygiene classes in the community
  • Continued monthly medical checkups for both students and their families by its on-staff nurse
  • Promoted the use of reusable sanitary pads to coming-of-age females through the Days For Girls program
  • Created both Vocational and adult literacy classes with over 100 men and women participating
  • By God’s grace, we have witnessed over 400 salvation and baptisms

It is hard to believe that:

  • $30 enables a child to attend school in the ILF literacy program
  • $50 provides an entire year of school supplies for a child
  • $100 pays for a life saving hernia repair surgery for one person
  • $150 pays for an entire year of medical attention and hygiene for a child
  • $200 provides an entire year of nutrition for a child
  • $300 covers pastoral/education training for a teacher
  • $2,500 repairs an old, inoperable well providing clean drinking water to an entire village
  • $5,000 funds the installation of a new well, providing clean water to a whole community

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Nelson Mandela

“The Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self. That is the way Jesus came to reveal God’s love. The great message that we have to carry, as ministers of God’s Word and followers of Jesus, is that God loves us not because of what we do or accomplish, but because God has created and redeemed us in love and has chosen us to proclaim that love as the true source of all human life.”
