According to Children International, “education is one of the most powerful ways to reduce poverty and improve health, gender equality, peace, and stability.” In Sierra Leone, 70% of the population lives below the poverty line. By empowering children through education, we hope to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation of leaders in Sierra Leone.
Our school, Revive Africa Christian School, is a free K-6th grade school providing a Christian education to over 130 children. All of our teachers are Sierra Leonian, but much like the rest of the country, there’s a high degree of teachers who do not have a teaching certificate due to the high cost of the program. We put a program in place to help our employees, both financially, and personally by sending them through an accredited Teacher Certification program to gain necessary skills. The teachers are also invited to participate in our weekly pastoral training program to gain spiritual maturity and leadership skills.
School uniforms are made by the tailoring class in our vocational school. This program not only benefits our school with low cost uniforms, but it empowers adults with skills to be employable, to create micro businesses, and to be self-sustaining.
