Hope is Breaking Barriers in Sierra Leone

Hope is Breaking Barriers in Sierra Leone

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11

Rewriting the Story of Education

During my first trip to Sierra Leone in October 2019, I witnessed something unforgettable in the village of Mankneh - a spark of hope and expectation I hadn’t seen anywhere else. I believe that hope was God‑given, preparing the ground for something beautiful.

In rural Sierra Leone, the dream of education often stops short. While most children enroll in primary school, only 44% complete junior secondary school due to a lack of local classrooms and high costs. In 2021, by God’s grace, we expanded the mission of Revive Africa Christian School by launching the area's very first Christian junior secondary school. Today, this entire educational journey remains 100% free, and multiple classes of students have successfully completed Grade 8!

Because local livelihoods rely heavily on practical trades, traditional senior secondary school isn’t always the best next step for all students. That is why our strategic partnership with OIC Makeni, a local technical trade school, has been so impactful. By bridging the gap after Grade 8 with hands-on vocational skills, these young men and women are working to secure vocational opportunities, break the cycle of poverty, and build up their community.

Full Circle:  Hawanatu's Story

Hawanatu’s life is the perfect example of that unique hope I saw back in 2019. She started her journey in youngest class at Revive Christian School. Thanks to faithful donors, she persevered through Grade 8, advanced to OIC Makeni to study computer technology, and recently graduated!

Today, Hawanatu’s journey has come full circle, as she is now a vital member of our local ILF team in Sierra Leone, helping to manage our child sponsorship program.  Praise God!
We say this time and time again, but we want to thank you for your life-changing support. Your generosity is unlocking God-given potential and offering a future that families in Mankneh and nearby villages could once only dream of.
